The Western Australian Division is active in lobbying government on issues relating to animal welfare and veterinary practice in Western Australia.

The Division holds an annual conference and trade fair. Educational and social events are also held through the WA Branches.

The Division actively participates in the AVA Graduate Mentor Program, where new graduates are partnered with a volunteer mentor to support them in their first year in practice.

MU Dean of Vet School is now a regular attendee of AVA WA Division committee meetings.
The AVA held a highly productive meeting with the the VPB WA which included discussing the challenges and barriers experienced by veterinary teams in WA to provide veterinary services to animals that meet animal welfare needs and obligations while adhering to regulations and requirements of legislation.
The AVA are gathering information on the challenges facing veterinarians with the workforce shortage to identify opportunities that may be available to help address this in regional WA.
I am looking forward to kickstarting more conversations about what we need as a profession and an organization. I want you to make the most of your AVA membership and lean into the greatest aspect it offers – the network.
